5G, 4G & Wi-Fi

Works on any connection — switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi to compare directly.

Latency check

5G promises low latency. Measure yours to see if it's ready for gaming and calls on the go.

No app needed

Runs in your mobile browser — nothing to install, no data-hungry app.

How to test 5G speed accurately

  1. 1Turn off Wi-Fi so your device uses mobile data for the test.
  2. 2Check your status bar shows 5G rather than 4G/LTE.
  3. 3Stand still — moving between cells mid-test skews the result.
  4. 4Run the test a few times; mobile speeds vary with signal, congestion and location.

Why 5G speeds vary so much

5G comes in flavours. Low-band 5G reaches far but is only modestly faster than 4G. Mid-band (the most common good 5G) delivers a few hundred Mbps. High-band mmWave can exceed 1 Gbps but only over short line-of-sight distances. Your result depends heavily on which band you're on, how far you are from the tower, and how many people share the cell.

5G vs home broadband

Run this test on 5G and again on your home Wi-Fi to see which is faster where you are. Fixed 5G home internet can rival fibre in strong-signal areas but is more variable.

Frequently asked questions

How do I test my 5G speed?+

Disable Wi-Fi so your phone uses mobile data, confirm the status bar shows 5G, stay still, and run the test. Repeat a few times because mobile speeds fluctuate with signal and congestion.

What is a good 5G speed?+

Mid-band 5G typically delivers 100–400 Mbps download, while mmWave can exceed 1 Gbps. Anything above 100 Mbps with latency under 40 ms is a solid 5G connection.

Why is my 5G slower than advertised?+

Advertised 5G speeds usually reflect ideal mmWave conditions. Distance from the tower, being on low- or mid-band, building materials, and network congestion all reduce real-world speeds.
